traveling bug

yesterday Lauren and i took the metro to the airport where we hopped on separate flights to Cancun. Lauren had to come here for work, and since my classes were pushed back a week, i could join her! flying from DF all around the country is going to be really easy, i can't wait to see more places!!! it feels really nice to be back in some warm weather, although this city doesn't really feel like mexico. it's a little more... ocean city meets las vegas but with really freaking awesome beaches.

this morning lauren left for her presentation and now i'm relaxing and enjoying a little soy latte at starbucks before going to find the hostel i'll stay in for the next few days. i am very glad to be here, i have never seen anything like these beaches! it's a touristy place, which means people assuming i don't speak spanish, but i think it's worth it.

i finally bought a cell phone here, and we had a good laugh about how low quality it is... it was 300 pesos which included 100 pesos of credit, so like 20 bucks, no contract or anything, i just needed a way to communicate with lauren when we're separated like this!

the hotel we stayed at was very cute, it was called the Cancun Clipper Club and reminded me of the Francis Scott Key in West OC... not on the ocean, but with a sweet pool and plenty of space in the rooms. we made a lizard friend at the restaurant, but soon realized he only wanted to be our friend to get some of our food. it's ok, he was cute.

now i'm off to check out the hostel situation in this town, i think i'll have to take a taxi out of the hotel district because there is really hardly anything around here except hotels and senor frogs and starbucks. it makes me wonder where the people who work here live and how far they have to travel to get here? this town does a good job of hiding the real mexico from the tourists.

mighty mighty pittsburgh

Went to Pittsburgh this weekend for Janelle's birthday. Fun! This picture makes it seem like I did nice things like look at the scenery... but there was a lot of drinking going on. Pittsburgh is a really interesting city. Old, industrial... pretty. I like it. I love the drive there too... Amish people rule, as do windmills.
I'm really lucky to live where I do.... such an interesting part of the country... so many things to do and places to see.
Got a haircut too. People at school really seemed to like it, so I guess it's cool... shorter than usual.
I cut my cable back to basic cable to save money and try to better myself. Basically just means I'm watching more DVDs. Anyways, everything is basically the same as ever... work work work, we have a delay tomorrow, meeting, and then I have to find time to observe the middle school Spanish teacher... and go to the doctor...... and get my car looked at...... and pack..... by next Thursday. gah!

drip drip drop

i'm at natalie's, it's been raining pretty bad this weekend. i reckon i'm the only one awake right now, once they get up i'll have breakfast then drive back to mom's, do a little shopping, then leave. i want to get more flash cards from barnes and noble... assuming they have a spanish kids section.. the one in salisbury did... and stock up on some healthy goodness from trader joes.

yesterday we played risk--I WON-- and trivial pursuit ...i lost... but it was fun. trivial pursuit is darn difficult though. i dominated the western hemisphere in risk, though. then we played rockband and went to bed! i'm glad i was able to come down here this weekend... i was way jealous of all the frostburg students who just started their spring breaks this weekend.

26 dias hasta mexico!!!! sooo excited!

so i have this week of school--monday no 8th period, honors convocation, end of the week is ACIT basketball tournament so lots of people will be out on friday, then next week of school, friday is a half day, then the following week of school, which is just normal, then the next week i go monday through wednesday, thursday is a half day, then i'm driving to dc and getting up on friday to go to PV!!!!!!!!! i love just seeing it all written out like that... ahhh..... pv...... mmm.......
